First 3 years of free weekly mp3s: fave songs
"Songs" is pretty damn loose, but I was looking for something to cover the sing-along numbers and psychedelic bits that aren't really beat-heavy or ambient or whatever...
Miike Snow - Animal
This tune is just a very catchy sing-along, and certainly an easy pick for me. Many reading this probably know it, even if you didn't see my first blog post. It's the Swedish songwriters behind a bunch of big pop hits (Britney's 'Toxic' is the one everyone mentions). For their own band name they decided to make a curious reference to the director of such movies as Audition and Sukiyaki Western Django. Yeah, "Miike" isn't a typo, and doesn't rhyme with "bike".
Memoryhouse - Lately (Deuxieme Version)
Lovely sad drifter, one of the few contemporary blissed-out pop tracks that is actually a decent song. In my original post I linked to the piano version as well, but I've listened to this one more...
Toro Y Moi - Blessa
I bought the first Toro Y Moi album and like it a lot, but I think he really nailed it on this one track. Such a stand-out - like the best Koushik tracks, but more lush and almost glowing arrangements instead of Koushik's dusty cratedigger sound.
Danimals - Christmas Worm's Quest For Fresh Apples
Hm, no streamer for this one, but it's so fucking good. When the guy's stuff on Stones Throw comes out am sure that'll be all over the webs. I think he's now releasing stuff under his birth name (?) of Jonti Dan. Anyway, it's good time psychedelia from Sydney, Australia.
Hope you enjoyed these first three years...
