Weekly mp3 #113: Audiophyla - Suturist

An Audiophyla promo pic that may or may not be the producer himself

Part of a free EP, 'Audiophyla III - Quarkestra'. You can have a listen here too:

Not sure if it's a mistake on the artist's part, but although you can get the whole EP for free, you have to pay US$1+ to download the individual tracks.

Since you can stream the track anyway, not sure what to say.  Instrumental electronic underwater sounds.  I like the rolling rhythm a lot.

Audiophyla is an Auckland, NZ producer called Stephen Lothian, also known as SiGiL.

Rectified. The initial idea had been to provide an option: free to download, or pay if you're willing, however it seems the vast majority of listeners would sooner download music gratis. From scanning the stats for tracks posted on Soundcloud, I could see that a track could be downloaded hundreds, or even thousands, of times if free, but hardly ever if payment was required. I've given this whole issue much thought, and discussed it at great length with other producers and listeners, and have come to the conclusion that it's already anachronistic to think of cultural products that can be easily copied as commodities when they're really just resources in the public domain, much like books in a public library. That said, some kind of system of koha would be good for the rare individuals who can be bothered with notions like 'reciprocity'.
