Weekly mp3 #153: Juana Molina - Un Día

Argentinean loop-pop?  Dublab for stream and download...

A little bit in common with last week's number, inasmuch as this song is variations against a repeated loop, but in this case it's Molina singing "one day one day one day one day one day one day" alongside a piano ostinato.  But this is more of a classic build - while the tempo's fast and the loop is insistent, things start soft. By the end it's a pretty glorious thrash-about.

Molina multi-tracks her vocals, mostly in Spanish, but with bits of English and plenty of just messing with sound. The track grows with more and more vocal parts, a strident bassline, acoustic percussion, and on and on. And it's not strictly linear in the development - bits drop in and out and existing parts change as it goes. Ripper.

Juana Molina is from Buenos Aires. This is the title track from her fifth album, which came out in 2010.
