Weekly mp3 #160: Loscil - Stratus

Deepest drones ever, courtesy of this free release, 'Stases', on the net-label One.

'Stases' is subtitled "Drones 2001-2005" and the idea was to strip back Loscil's material from previous releases to expose the drones underneath. The irony is that Loscil's usual stuff barely moves anyway... And, yeah, the first time I heard this release I was thinking he was taking the piss, because there really is almost nothing going on. But there are certain times when this kind of bed (in both senses) is all I'm after and it does the trick nice and loud.

Canadian Scott Morgan has been doing stuff as Loscil since the 90s. He mainly releases on Kranky, although he did a 12" on New Zealand label Involve Records once upon a time. Curious.
