Me, Me and Me

Right, this is about me then?

My name's Michael Upton. I'm from Wellington, New Zealand. I'm 32.

I lived in Melbourne, Australia, for 4 years, followed by Tokyo for two 2. I got back to Wellington late 2007, so am still adjusting as I write this.

I write music. I love it. (No, really?) I get given crap for being unable to stop going on about it. My last.fm page records my listening habits.

I DJ from time to time. Currently I do Deep on Radio Active every month or so. I post the playlists under music news. I used to do the soul show on Active with my friend Dayton. Kinda sums up two of my main interests right there. I can't mix, I'm definitely no club DJ, but I quite enjoy radio.

I studied Linguistics at university, which I guess makes me a language nerd. I really enjoyed the language-learning aspect of teaching English in Japan, but I generally make my living in IT.

I don't watch TV, I don't listen to the radio much, I hardly ever read a paper. News-wise I find all of those sources reasonably... I think "piss-poor" is the appropriate expression.

I love movies, but don't collect. My favourites tend to be slow-paced.

I'm the cook in my house. I'm stuck on curries it seems. One-pot meals of any kind from around Asia, really.

I've been living with the same woman for over a decade and (after a crazy amount of deliberation about the heterosexism of the institution on my part) we got married 5 years ago. My wife took the photos that I've used for the backgrounds on this site, as well as a lot of the artist shots. Thanks, nice!

I'm on Facebook , so if we do know each other, feel free to "friend me". When did "friend" become a verb? It would certainly sound like something quite different to say "befriend me"...

Lastly, I quite enjoy designing web sites. I'm writing this content here in notepad, which is how I did the entire site, barring three sections of the site which use blogger. Big on strict CSS compliance and all that, for anyone who knows what that means.
