More interviews coming up

The Angry Rabbit crew External link (which includes me) will be doing some more radio interviews in support of this Friday's release party. We'll be talking about the release gig (we make up 3 of the 4 acts between us) and the CD.

First up is Tuesday 6pm on Radio Active's Drive show.
Thursday night we'll do a bit of a guest spot on The Session, from 9pm.
And I believe Friday will be another quick spot on the breakfast show, sometime after 7 and before 9am.

You can stream Radio Active External link if you like. It's that kind of thing.

Interviews for Apropos Of Nothing

I'm doing a whole lot of interviews leading up to the Auckland release gig for 'Apropos of Nothing'.

First, there's more information about the cD itself over on the label site External link, including some tunes to download and a player to listen to every track.

Kirsten Johnstone from Radio National interviewed me and Stuart McDonald, last week. Jet Jaguar & Aquaboogie respectively, collectively Malty Media, and two of the three organisers of the compilation.
It's going to air twice:

The Music Mix, Thursday 14th from 11.06PM (Check the time in your timezone External link)
Stream Radio National External link

Music 101, Saturday 16th from 2.00PM (Check the time in your timezone External link)
Stream Radio National External link

Andrew Loughnan (Group Five, and the other CD organiser) and I are also being interviewed by Andrew Manning on B, and we'll have some give aways of the CD.

Freak the Sheep, Wednesday 13th from 9.00PM (Check the time in your timezone External link)
Stream BFM External link

And finally, an early morning chat with Lewis Tennant.

The Morning Toaster, Friday 15th - probably just after 7.00AM or I might still be in the shower! (Check the time in your timezone External link)
Stream BFM External link

Oh, and we've also got a wee feature (contradiction in terms!?) in this week's print version of Groove Guide External link which is out tomorrow.

Victim of a Jewel School Aikido blend

I slipped The Jewel School External link some exclusives for their all-NZ music week show. They blended a track of mine with an acapella from Slum Village! Bit of a giggle, and glad to know New Zealand has annexed Detroit (Hey, we got Recloose, it obviously started a while back...).

You can download the whole show, with heaps of other NZ music on the downtempo / jazzy / Gilles-Peterson-is-alright-with-us tip:

A French review of Biddy Bids

The Netlabels Revue blog Link to external site has posted a review of my Monotonik EP. Four stars. Merci. :)

Here's a rough translation in English, courtesy of one of my workmates:

We're interested in Jet Jaguar because, despite what you might think initially, the music of this New Zealander lacks neither originality nor interest.

Somewhere between ambient, downtempo, jazz and hip-hop, Jet Jaguar's music pulls you in and is reminiscent of the Englishman, Howie B. And although this guy had already released three albums prior to signing up to Monotonik, it's nice to get on board at this point and discover this bouncing, as well as minimal and groovy EP, direct from the laptop of Jet Jaguar.

New Jet Jaguar EP free for download

My first solo release in about 5 years is available now, thanks to ridiculously long-standing net label Monotonik External link. 5 tracks, all free. Hope you enjoy it.

Jet Jaguar - Biddy Bids External link

Here's a little blurb about each track:

Red

Was working on it for a dub net label that's yet to see the light of day, so it's obviously got a bit of a skank going on. To add some grit beyond what software would do for me I actually used an FM transmitter to send bits of the track from my computer to my MP3 player and record them off-station, walking around the house and so on. Well, plus some recordings of Tokyo radio.

Basashi Aisu

Japanese for "raw horse meat icecream". Search if you like, but, believe me, it exists. It's not popular at all, at least from people I spoke to in Tokyo, but it is available. More Japanese radio samples, some strings from a Dvorak recording at the end.

Enjoy Mask Aesthetic

Name is a t-shirt slogan I saw on a young woman in Tokyo. The drums in this are all sounds of walking in snow through Hokkaido, processed and built into beats, recorded again, played at wrong pitches, re-rhythmed, re-sequenced, re-sampled... So basically it could've been anything, but I think a bit of the chilliness remains. Really happy with the stupidly grubby bassline, the sub bass wobbles, and the mangled melody.

Disasters In Reverse

Another t-shirt slogan title. I recorded the entirety of a subway ride to see one of my private students when I was teaching English in Tokyo, and you can hear big chunks of that in here. The ambient number, I suppose. Maybe, that describes all of these tracks.

Kent's Windchime Recording

A guy called Kent made these recordings of his neighbour's windchimes. This track is made entirely from those recordings - beats, bass, chords, and melodies. Figured the prosaic name was suitable - not often my track titles actually connect much to the sounds!
